The 1,200 members of the Vineland Education Association, which represents teachers and secretaries, held a rally on Feb. 10 to draw attention to their excellent public schools and the fact that the staff members have been working without a new contract since July 1, 2010.
The VEA, most of whom are residents of Vineland who have educated their own children in Vineland’s public schools, carried signs which read, “We care about Vineland’s kids,” “No contract, still caring about Vineland’s kids,” and “Vineland Education Association: We care about Vineland’s great public schools.”
The VEA and the Board of Education met with a mediator Feb. 10 in an attempt to resolve the bargaining crisis. Unfortunately, the two parties were not able to come to a resolution. The next mediation session will be held in March.
