Students in Danita Guarino's eighth grade class at the Linwood Middle School in North Brunswick (Middlesex County) will be taking responsibility for their lessons this year. Thanks to a $6,560 grant from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education, Guarino's students will be teaching and learning simultaneously.
Guarino?s 108 eighth grade Physical Science students will learn questioning strategies and problem-solving techniques to prepare for the annual GEPA test and then design simple ways of teaching related basic concepts to early learners in special education classes in North Brunswick Township Public School District.
Students will design lessons and interactive activities for use in live interactive presentations through the Internet using PictureTel Video Conferencing. Two classes of classified students (ages 3 to 7) in the partner school will model activities, use manipulatives, and interact with their 8th grade tutors throughout the school year.
Through a partnership with a local university and a technology business, students will gain technical assistance and support for their research.
