Winfield Park Teachers Association (Union County) members Colette Bapst and Patricia Pfeifer know that appreciation of the arts and different cultures needs the support and encouragement of parents and the school community working together.

This NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education project will introduce students in this homogeneous community to the art of Native Americans, Asians, Africans, and the Impressionists. Each unit will provide teacher-made games and manipulatives, books, pictures, and songs connected to each discrete area of art.

The approach will be hands-on and will include such mediums as pottery making and painting on canvas.

Two culminating activities, financed through this $1,850 grant will include a visit to a museum to view Asian, African, and Native American exhibits. The final activity will be an art show where student artwork will be displayed for viewing by their parents and grandparents.
