This project received a $10,000 continuation grant from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education, and was awarded the James P. Reilly Grant for Professional Action Research. This continuation project by educators Bridget Carvajal and Jeanne Kimball of the Oxford Central School in Oxford (Warren County) incorporates online journaling known as “blogging” by fourth, fifth, and sixth grades students.
High school students serve as editors who offer critique and suggested revisions. Students will create a single published manuscript for entry in Scholastic’s Young Author’s Contest.
Parent nights will bring the participating parents into the project as equal partners, inherent in the design of action research. These events will be extended to include the whole school community to encourage use of the technology. Community and nearby districts will be invited to participate in the author visits through direct attendance or through video-conferencing.
