Plumsted Township teachers Rita R. Williams, Brad Mogol, and Ken Beere have received a $10,000 continuation grant from the NJEA Hipp Foundation for Blue Skies Project LIVE!, which is designed to bring hope to people in need through children’s artwork.
Students will take periodic nature walks armed with digital cameras and learn to import their photos into iPads. Books of water color paintings and books of photographs will be created for distribution. Selected artwork will be framed and displayed, and a gallery opening is being planned with a local hospital.
Students will create music that accompanies art and photography with Nature as the theme for a musical composition. Fifth grade students can take part in the new Blue Skies Academy outreach that performs LIVE! on the road at various medical facilities.
Developing technology skills continues to be a strong aspect of the project. Digitizing artwork, creating DVDs, slideshows, and documentaries on iMovie will expand. The introduction of GreenScreen technology will allow students to add even more effects to their slideshow and film skills. Voice Thread and Skype will also be incorporated.
A video will be produced for teachers which will outline the creation and implementation of this project. This short professional development video will provide teachers with ideas for their own service projects and the opportunity to earn professional development credit.
