Home owners, renters and businesses in dispute with their insurance carrier regarding coverage and/or payment amount for damage caused by Super Storm Sandy in excess of $1,000 are eligible for participation in a voluntary mediation program established by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. This mediation program is administered by the American Arbitration Association and is free to the policy holder. Fees charged for the mediation session are paid for by the insurance company.
The Policy Holder must complete a two-page Mediation Request Form and send it to the American Arbitration Association (AAA). Upon approval, AAA will appoint a mediator to the case and schedule a two-hour mediation session. AAA will notify the policy holder, insurance company and mediator of the date, time, and location of the meeting. All mediators are New Jersey Superior Court Rule 1:40 Civil Roster Mediators and are approved by AAA for the Storm Sandy Roster of Mediators.
