Legislative Update - May 6, 2010

ACR 94/SCR 40 (Girgenti, Beach, Connors, Conaway) This concurrent resolution, which was reported out of committee, requests and encourages each institution of higher education in the State to seek membership in the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. NJEA supported this legislation which will go to the Assembly floor for a vote.

A-2405 (Lampitt) This bill was reported out of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and is on second reading in the Assembly. This bill directs the governing board of each institution of higher education to develop and coordinate an emergency operations plan that will ensure the continuity of essential institution functions under all circumstances. Under the bill, the plan must identify a baseline of preparedness for all potential emergencies, and be coordinated with State and local authorities including the State Office of Emergency Management. NJEA supported this bill as we have policy supporting such efforts.
