Requires School Districts to Provide Instruction on Responsible Use of Social Media for Middle School Students.
NJEA supports A-3292 (Fuentes, Diegnan). This legislation would require school districts to provide instruction on the responsible use of social media as part of the district’s implementation of the Core Curriculum Content Standards in Technology.
NJEA supports this bill because today’s students live in an ever-changing digital world. In order to keep up with technology that changes on a daily basis, it is critical that our students have a fundamental understanding of social media and the new social skills needed to use it in a responsible and safe way. By incorporating information on social media behavior into technology instruction, it will ensure that students in grades 6 through 8 learn about cyber safety, cyber security, cyber ethics, and the potential negative consequences of cyber bullying. A-3292 also requires that the Commissioner of Education provide school districts with sample learning activities and resources that promote the responsible use of social media.
NJEA urges you to support this bill.
