In addition to being a member of NJEA, you are also a member of the National Education Association and your local association.
The NEA was founded in 1857 to “advance the interest of the profession of teaching and to promote the cause of education in the United States.” Today, NEA represents not only teachers, but also educational support staff, retired members, higher education staff and student members.
The NEA is the nation’s largest professional organization with more than 2.7 million members.
There are more than 174 members of the NEA Board of Directors, which governs the association. New Jersey has nine state NEA directors.
The NEA Representative Assembly is the association’s top policymaking body. More than 10,000 delegates meet each June/July and make up the world’s largest democratic deliberative body.
The NEA Web site, www.nea.org, can give you information on a wide range of topics that are relevant to all members. Check it out if you haven’t already.
