Members of West End Elementary School's (North Plainfield) Families and Schools Together (FAST) committee joined with parents, students, and other teacher volunteers on March 11 for an evening of food, friends and homework help! The pouring rain did not deter over 150 people from attending.
Families sat down to enjoy a spaghetti dinner, followed by a presentation by NJEA consultant and Jersey City second grade teacher Jason Pukel, who presented a homework workshop entitled "Together We Can."
The interactive presentation allowed parents to participate and learn effective strategies to help their children with homework.
The evening culminated with a raffle drawing of five backpacks stuffed with supplies to aid in homework success.
West End's FAST committee has several additional events planned for the remainder of the school year, including a science fair and standardized test preparation workshop. Their goal is to unite families and educators in a fun, meaningful way to increase student success and well-being.
FAST is a coalition of education advocates, community groups, and schools working together to foster family involvement in education. All Abbott Districts are eligible to participate.
