The New Jersey Education Association has teamed up with the Philadelphia Phillies to sponsor a student essay contest open to all New Jersey public school students. The topic of the contest is “The people who build our great public schools.” Students are encouraged to write a short, but thoughtful essay about a school employee who builds morale and makes a difference in their school. Essays should be no more than 250 words.
Three winners will be selected. Each winning student, the school employee he or she writes about, and their family members will be guests of NJEA and the Phillies at the Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, Phillies home game against the Miami Marlins at 1:35 PM. Children 14 and under who attend the game will receive a New Jersey Education Association Phanatic OYO minifigure and buildable dugout. The winners and their guests will enjoy a pre-game tent party including food and beverages. Each winning student and the school employees they write about will receive 10 tickets to the game and pre-game party.
One grand prize winner will also win one pep rally with the Phanatic and Phillies ball girls at their school on Thursday, May 22, 2014. (Participants should be available to attend the game and accommodate the pep rally – no substitute dates are available.) NJEA and the Phillies reserve the rights to publish winning student essays in part or in whole for promotional purposes.
Entries must include the student’s name, home address, parent’s name and phone number, school name, address, and phone number, grade level, and homeroom teacher’s name.
