NJEA president Wendell Steinhauer told the crowd gathered for today’s Better Choices for NJ rally at the New Jersey Statehouse that it’s time for a big change in New Jersey. After detailing the utter failure of Gov. Christie’s so-called New Jersey Comeback, Steinhauer called for a New Jersey Take Back.
“It's time for us to take back New Jersey from a bully who blames everyone else for his failures,” he said to loud cheers. “It's time to take back our schools from people who are trying to turn our children into their profit centers! It's time to take back our budget and tax policy from a governor who thinks that tax cuts are required but pension payments are a luxury!”
He also sent a strong message to Gov. Christie, who earlier this week announced that he intends to break his own law by not funding the state’s pension obligations this year or next. “Governor Christie, we're taking New Jersey back! We won’t be bullied, we won't be intimidated and we won't back down!”
Other speakers included Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, who both vowed to fight Christie’s illegal attempt to undermine the pension systems.
