Christie will not seek NJEA's endorsement
Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie has told NJEA that he is not interested in seeking its endorsement. In a statement, NJEA President Joyce Powell said: “It is unfortunate that Mr. Christie is unwilling to take the time to have an honest discussion about educational issues with the organization that represents the overwhelming majority of the state’s educators."

Math Fellow
The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning seeks to employ up to three retired or currently employed certified public school teachers with demonstrated expertise in mathematics instruction and professional learning communities in a temporary part-time consulting position for the 2009-2010 school year.

NJEA members have elected Marie Blistan, a special education teacher from Washington Township, Gloucester County, as NJEA secretary-treasurer. Vice President Barbara Keshishian, a high school mathematics teacher from New Milford, ran unopposed and is NJEA’s new president-elect, while Secretary-Treasurer Wendell Steinhauer, a high school mathematics teacher from Riverside, who also ran unopposed, is NJEA’s vice president- elect. The officers will serve a two-year term effective September 1, 2009.
