170. Encourage your members on Facebook to support your local association by posting a unique cover photo.

We got this idea from the Hoboken Education Association. Check out the attached pic and see if you can make it happen with your local!

171. This one goes with # 64: Put your members on blast!

When your local leaders attend county and NJEA sponsored workshops, let your members know. Your leaders have given up their time (sometimes even an entire weekend) to attend training that will benefit your members by making your local stronger. You could share with members who attended and what they learned. You could do this on your association website, newsletter, Facebook page, etc.

172. Encourage your active members to apply for the NJEA Apprentice Program!

NJEA created its apprentice program to provide ethnic-minorities and women with the opportunities, knowledge, and skills needed for association governance roles and potential NJEA staff employment. Graduates of the program include current full-time NJEA staff members, part-time NJEA consultants, and many statewide, county, and local leaders

173. Post the story of your association on Wikipedia.

This one goes with #136 ("Looking for some old contracts to share with members") and #82 ("Prepare an association history flier").

After you learn about the history of your association and tell the story, how about posting it for all to see on a wikipedia page?

174. Have an association "ambassador" speak to your new members.

This idea goes with # 31: "Host a new member event at a local restaurant after the school day." How about asking one or a few of your newer members to attend the event with you and speak to all the great things your association does for its members, schools, students, and community. Hearing from association officers is good, but members hearing from their peers has value, too.

175. Host a monthly service project with your members.

Work with NJEA's PRIDE in Public Education Program (see #73: "Does your local have a PRIDE in Public Education committee") and connect with charitable organizations in your community, including historical houses, civic organizations, food banks, animal shelters, clubs, etc. Each month, ask your members to perform some charitable service to the community that would benefit one of these organizations. Consider winter clothing collections, canned good collections, a day of volunteering at a food bank or dog shelter, a community cleanup day (see #133: "Organize a Community / Playground Cleanup"). This may bring more attention to the fact that your association not only takes care of members and students but also the community. Try it!

176. Host "Workshop Wednesdays" with your local.

We got this idea from a member of the Atlantic Cape Community College Education Association. Each Wednesday during the month of April, the local offers workshops to its members. This year's offerings include:

-- Substance abuse and mental health awareness.
-- The Affordable Care Act.
-- NJ politics: how it affects you.
-- NJEA Member Benefits.
-- What's going on in other NJ community colleges.

NJEA staff presents each workshop, which last about an hour-and-a-half.

177. Send a congratulations card to members when they welcome a new member to their families!

This one goes with #161: "Does your local help members write their maternity leave and leave of absence letters?"

We got this idea from one of our NJEA UniServ field reps. Whenever she helps a member craft a maternity leave letter, she makes note of the member's due date. Shortly after the due date, she sends a congratulations card to the member for his or her new bundle of joy!

This is a great idea! Try to keep track of this as you help your members write their maternity leave letters.

178. Encourage your members to apply for grants!

Anytime you hear about a great grant opportunity, don't forget to pass it on to your members. Also, if one of your members secures a grant, make sure to give them a shout out by promoting it to all your members.

Here is a list of grants to get you started:

179. Help your members become more "financially literate."

This one goes with # 138: "With all the changes that have recently occurred affecting members’ pensions, it is more important than ever that they begin saving for retirement early in their careers. It’s no secret that members need to invest more to prepare for their future." Did you know that njea.org has a great financial literacy page? Feel free to share these great resources with your members:
