Medical coverage?

Postby jeverts » June 27th, 2014, 10:17 am

Hi all, hoping I'm not the only one in this situation. Anyway, my wife is in the process of retiring (38 yrs) this summer due to a medical emergency and is doing so rather abruptly. She's 64 y/o but turns 65 mid november. I'm younger 60 and will retire after next year (16 yrs of service) so, for a short while, I'll be covered under her state medical plan. Question is when she turns 65 and uses medicare and the state plane is secondary, will I still be covered under the secondary state plan until I'm 65? I get a lot of, I think so, probably etc. I'm looking for a more definitive answer. Anyone have experience here with a similar situation? Thanks, John Everts

Hey John. I would suggest you give a ring to your regional UniServ office. Your field rep can help you with that question or connect you to someone at NJEA HQ who can help.

Find your UniServ office here: http://www.njea.org/about/who-we-are/regional-offices
