GOTV COFFEE KLATCH—PTA TEA

The association will host a Tea event for members of the PTA drawing parents and teachers. This “coffee klatch” will serve to educate parents about the negative impact of budget cuts this school year and the importance of passing the budget this April. Specific examples of the cuts will be discussed and a strategy to pass the budget will be jointly developed.

An association reception table will be set up at the entrance of the event displaying the association banner. Participants will be asked to sign into to receive their PRIDE gift (vinyl jotter). The contact information collection will be compiled into a database of identified supporters that will be used for GOTV activities such as mailers and voter reminder phone calls. An association banner will also be displayed at the refreshment table.

The following informational brochures developed by the association will be available.

1. The current budget crisis (citing specific examples of the negative impact that budget cuts have had on the students this school year).
2. The importance of passing the budget and a reminder of the date and times of this year’s school election as well as locations of election polling sites.
3. The good things being done by association members in the school community and the importance of schools and community working together to achieve great public schools for every child; encouraging supporters of public education to vote in this year’s school elections.

The association will print postcards and members will address and mail them to community members in our database. Fliers will be mailed to parents in the database urging them to vote. Members will make personal contact by phone with parents of their students urging them to support the budget.
