58. Invite retired or veteran members to share inspiring stories with members!
These members can draw on their knowledge and experience to connect events from past struggles to what members are actually experiencing today. Members may find it interesting, even inspiring, to hear some of the struggles of the past and how members from their local association rose up to the challenges and emerged successful. Many of today's members have not personally experienced the power of collective action. From time to time someone tells them a war story – a strike in ‘78 or a fiscal crises and lay-offs in ‘80 – a story about the good old days.
Invite your veteran or retired members to tell their stories in ways that are concise, accurate, and relate to changing times, changing needs, and today’s education professional.
