The National PTA has long celebrated the first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. In New Jersey, we honor the spirit of that celebration and broaden it to include all educators, because we know that EVERY NJEA member plays a critical role in making our schools the very best in the nation!
This year we are all doing that work in unprecedented ways. With school buildings across New Jersey closed for the rest of the academic year to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we’ve had to adapt quickly to make sure our students are still supported, still safe and still learning.
And New Jersey is noticing!
Assemblywoman Betty Lou DeCroce published this encouraging op-ed praising the work of all school employees during this pandemic. She has also introduced AR154, an Assembly resolution honoring the contribution of educators.
Parents across New Jersey are thanking educators for the outstanding work we are doing for students. That’s not surprising: a new NEA poll of parents nationwide finds incredible appreciation for all that school employees are doing right now.
And rave reviews are coming in for NJTV Learning Live, featuring NJEA members presenting televised lessons that students across New Jersey can watch.
If you need any more encouragement, check out the incredible stories, photos and videos at NJEA Together. They are just a small sample, representing the work being done by our members, everywhere. You and your colleagues are doing amazing work, and New Jersey knows it!
And NJEA will continue to share those stories with the public, to make sure everyone in New Jersey knows the contributions NJEA members are making.
We’ve never had a school year quite like this before and we’ve never had better reason to highlight, appreciate and celebrate the contributions of every NJEA member.
So thank you for all you do to help students, to support your colleagues and to make our union stronger and more effective than ever as we get through this challenge together.
