At the outset of our careers, it is a challenge to see five years down the road, let alone 25 or 30 years out. It is often difficult to know what decisions to make now that will impact our financial future in a positive way.
Every year, members retire from our school districts. You might think, “Will that be me someday?” or “how are they able to retire?” Maybe, at times, you worry. . .
Across this state, there are thousands of retired NJEA members who have continued to stay involved as part of the NJREA, or New Jersey Retirees’ Education Association. These retired members were, at one time, right where you are now. And many of them made good, financial decisions early on, too.
We thought it might be productive to talk with them, ask some questions, hear their stories, and share our current ideas around saving $, buying a home, protecting our pensions, paying off debt, and even investing. Wouldn’t it be nice to grow our support networks to include others that we could run financial ideas by?
We’ll also be inviting Gabe Tanglao of the Bergenfield Education Association, who recently spoke about financial planning on Jersey Educator (episodes here and here), and Mark Neurohr-Pierpaoli of the New Brunswick Education Association, who recently brought a series of workshops to his local association on all sorts of financial topics of interest to early career members. You may recognize Mark from this news post.
This event is for NJEA members only.
