DESCRIPTION:This session will offer a comprehensive overview of students’ rights in schools under the LAD\, highlighting protected categories\, which include actual or perceived race\, religion\, national origin\, gender\, sexual orientation\, gender identity or expression\, disability (visible & non-visible)\, among others. At the end of the presentation\, attendees should gain a better understanding of protections afforded to all in school settings under the NJ LAD and how to file a complaint with DCR’s online complaint portal NJBIAS. \nThe New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (DCR) is the state agency charged with enforcing New Jersey’s civil rights laws\, including the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJ LAD)\, the New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA)\, and the Fair Chance in Housing Act (NJ FCHA). They engage audiences across the state with “Know Your Rights” presentations\, anti-bias webinars\, and direct outreach activities empowering community members with information regarding their civil rights under the state’s anti-discrimination laws\, and how the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights protects all New Jerseyans. \n
