Following the presentation\, members will be guided to a new member benefit program that allows members to connect directly to nationally-accredited student loan counselors to assist them in making or implementing student loan debt solutions. \nAfter the presentation portion\, members may ask questions. SUMMARY:2023 NJTESOL/NJBE Spring Conference
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening Collaboration \nThe 2023 conference of the New Jersey Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages/New Jersey Bilingual Educators will have two components: an in-person conference and a video library conference. \nIn-person conference\nThe In-Person Conference will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick on May 23\, 24\, and 25. You can register for one\, two or all three days. The conference will feature three keynote speakers: Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld\, Dr. Edward Fergus and Jacquelyn León. \nIn addition\, you’ll select from many presentations approved for the continuing education requirement\, network with your colleagues\, and obtain the latest information on state and national initiatives. You can also meet with representatives at the sponsors’ and exhibitors’ booths to find the latest and greatest teaching tools. \nPresentation topics will include: General Interest\, Content Area Instruction\, Bilingual/ESL Pre-K through 12\, Higher Ed\, Teacher Ed\, Adult Ed\, and K-12 Administrators\, and Dual Language/Biliteracy. \nVideo library conference\nThe Video Library Conference is a select collection of library presentations you will have access to view starting on May 26 using the conference platform. There is no set schedule\, and you will be able to view the workshops from May 26 to Sept. 1. By using your unique login\, your hours will be tracked so that you can earn professional development hours through Sept. 1. Please note that the select collection of presentations will not include the keynotes or special invited guest speakers. \nRegister early for a discounted rate. The New Jersey Alliance for Social-Emotional and Character Development (NJASECD) Conference will address this issue in the fields of character education\, school culture and social-emotional learning. \n\n\n\nA panel of educators will address the essential points in each of these fields and discuss how they overlap to create individuals who are ready to face the tests of life. Following the panel discussion\, breakout presentations will illustrate the practical use of these concepts in schools. SUMMARY:Censorship in schools: Information literacy and social justice implications for educators
DESCRIPTION:The nationwide flood of book censorship creates chaos in classrooms and libraries. This workshop will review the most recent trends in book challenges and consider the social justice impact of censorship in the classroom and school library. Recent legislation requiring a stand-alone NJ K-12 information literacy standard (S588\, signed earlier this year) places access to information and book censorship on a collision course.
