Requires school districts to adopt policies concerning electronic communications between employees and students.
NJEA supports S-1458 (Ruiz), but recommends the bill be expanded to include public charter schools. S-1458 requires each school district to adopt a policy regarding electronic communications between school employees and students.
NJEA recognizes that such a workplace policy is important to protect both school employees and students. With emerging technologies, all individuals, particularly those who work with children, must proceed with great caution when using social media and other electronic communications. NJEA regularly advises its members to follow their district’s social media and communications policy, if the district has one. This legislation will ensure that all districts take the time to develop a clear and appropriate school policy for their employees.
While NJEA strongly supports S-1458, we do recommend expanding the bill to specifically include public charter schools, so there is no question as to their inclusion in the legislation.
NJEA asks you to support S-1458.
