On March 20, the NJEA PAC Screening Committee met with Republican gubernatorial candidate Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and reviewed a questionnaire submitted by Joe Rullo.
All of the known Republican candidates for governor were invited to participate. NJEA also contacted the NJ Republican State Committee and shared the questionnaire and invitation letter, and encouraged them to share it with any potential candidates vying for the Republican nomination. According to NJEA PAC policy, the screening committee can only consider candidates who either submit a questionnaire or meet with the committee.
The NJEA PAC Screening Committee deliberated following the interview and will submit a recommendation to the NJEA PAC Operating Committee, which is scheduled to meet on Monday, March 27.
In October, NJEA PAC endorsed Ambassador Phil Murphy for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
“This is the first time in NJEA PAC history our members have decided to screen for primaries in a statewide election,” said NJEA Government Relations Director Ginger Gold Schnitzer. “It has been an amazing experience for our members to take a deep dive into the positions of the candidates on issues related to public education and public school employees this early in the election. This opportunity has given our members a lot to think about.”
