NJEA announces five positions for part-time Teacher Leader Academy consultants in the Professional Development and Instructional Issues Division.


  1. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Professional Development and Instructional Issues (or designee), Teacher Leader Academy (TLA) Consultants will be responsible for leading the learning of study groups of participants of the Teacher Leader Academy including, but not limited to the following:
    • Coordinate the logistics of weekly meetings of an assigned study group
    • Plan and facilitate weekly study group meetings and coach participants as they lead the learning of each study group session
    • Monitor the progress of participants in the program
    • Support and provide feedback to the program participants
    • Assess the progress of program participants
  2. Assist in the development of curriculum
  3. Participate in training sessions and consultant meetings prior to the TLA and throughout the course of the program
  4. Assist in the development of training modules
  5. Perform such other duties as may be assigned


  1. Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
  2. Active member of NJEA
  3. Availability for weekly sessions
  4. Professional experience that reflects the Teacher Leader Model Standards in at least one of the following areas:
    • Creating collaborative cultures
    • Use of educational research
    • Instructional leadership
    • Mentoring/ Instructional Coaching
    • Professional Learning
    • Leading in the use of data and assessment
    • Family and/or community involvement
    • Advocating for students and/or the profession
  5. Demonstrated understanding of adult learning and an ability to facilitate professional learning
  6. Understanding of the Teacher Leader Model Standards
  7. Personal experience and /or background which demonstrate a high degree of intelligence, integrity, and imagination
  8. Demonstrated ability to write and speak effectively
  9. High level of energy and enthusiasm
  10. Ability to work long hours and under great pressure
