On Saturday, May 6, early career NJEA members networked with NJREA members at an event called “Grow Your Support Network Around Financial Planning” at NJEA headquarters.
The event kicked off with introductions, followed by a presentation by Andrew Lewis, an early career NJEA member and Vice President of the Old Bridge Education Association. Andrew’s presentation focused on budgeting, getting out of debt, and the differences between a 401k, a 403(b), and a pension.
Participants attended a session designed around the “speed dating” concept where early career NJEA members connected with NJREA members to share experiences and gain financial advice. Members appreciated the chance to sit with retirees and hear what worked for them financially and what they might have done differently throughout their careers.
Next, Mark Neurohr Pierpaoli, an early career member from the New Brunswick Education Association, shared information about a successful financial literacy event that he recently held in his local association, which drew over 100 members
The event concluded with lunch and an optional tour of NJEA headquarters. NJREA hopes to team up with early career NJEA members again on future events.
