NJEA members know that as a career teacher, no candidate for governor cares more deeply or personally about education than Sean. We can count on him to stand up for our values and priorities. That means we can count on him to stand up for our values and priorities:
- School funding – Sean knows that every student in every district deserves the resources necessary to learn, thrive and grow. He will work to make sure New Jersey has a fair system to fund all public schools.
- Pensions – Sean understands the importance of a secure, reliable pension after a career of dedicated service to students. He will work to strengthen our current pension system and to make sure it is funded so you can confidently count on it.
- Unions – Sean knows that unions built the American middle class. He will stand up for the right of working people to unionize and will work with unions in New Jersey to make sure our state is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
Like so many New Jerseyans, Sean’s family struggled to find housing that met their needs and that they could afford. Like so many New Jerseyans, Sean knows what it’s like to have a full-time job but still worry about paying the bills. That’s why, when he was mayor of Montclair, he passed rent control that helped hard-working families secure a better quality of life.
By investing in public education, helping small businesses grow and making sure our economy works for regular people we can create an environment that improves the lives of hard-working people that drive our economy in the first place—in and out of public education. Here’s a look at some of Sean’s positions for all of New Jersey.
Affordability and the economy
Inflation has made life too expensive for New Jerseyans from gas prices to the grocery store. Sean will create an economy that works for all New Jerseyans with higher wages, more jobs and lower costs.
Climate Change
Climate change is an existential crisis in New Jersey, where we’ve had the highest extreme rain increase in the country. Our clean water sources will be contaminated, our shoreline could become decimated and we’re one disaster away from having much our infrastructure and housing destroyed. But this problem presents New Jersey with an opportunity to create jobs, to improve our infrastructure, to develop new green energy technologies and build energy independence that will make New Jersey safer and more affordable.

Democracy
The right to vote is sacred and is too often weaponized by MAGA extremists against people of color and young people. Sean will make voting easy, fast and accessible for all New Jerseyans, and he’ll ensure that our votes are counted fairly even when people like Donald Trump try to overturn the will of the people.
Health care
Health care is a human right, and Sean will do everything in his power to reduce the cost of health insurance and prescription drugs for New Jerseyans.
Housing
It took Sean over a year to find a house that he could afford in New Jersey, and, even then, he had to rent out part of his house for years after. He understands as well as anyone that we need to reduce housing costs if we want a New Jersey that we can afford, and our children will one day be able to live in.
Jobs and labor
It’s hard to be more pro-worker than a labor leader like Sean. He will work hard to make New Jersey the best state in the country for new jobs and small businesses. And Sean will be a champion for our workforce, unions, and the right to collectively bargain better wages and living conditions for New Jerseyans.
LGBTQIA+ rights
Sean is a strong ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and will always fight for their right to marry who they love, to start a family and to be free from discrimination by employers or corporations.
Reproductive freedom
Sean will always stand for a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions and to have agency over her own body. He’ll fight back against Project 2025 and its attempts to ban abortions, contraceptives, and IVF, and to its plan to have the government track pregnancies to persecute women. He’ll make sure that survivors of rape, incest and human trafficking always have all the support they need from New Jersey.
Gun violence prevention
Sean has had to watch too many students partake in active shooter drills. He supports commonsense gun violence prevention measures that will keep our schools, streets, homes and common spaces free from mass violence.
