Thank you Gov. Murphy, Sen. President Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Coughlin for passing a budget that supports public schools, students, and school employees!

The FY 2019 State Budget is a HUGE victory for public education and public school employees.

  • It makes a $3.2 billion pension payment. This pension payment is larger than all of the payments made in the previous administration’s first term.
  • It fully funds our members’ post-retirement medical premiums.
  • It provides the largest increase in public education funding in state history.
  • It expands access to preschool.
  • It increases funding for county colleges and makes college more affordable.
  • It raises the revenue we need to meet our obligations and increases tax fairness. It does this by:
    • Raising the tax rate on those earning more than $5 million per year to 10.75 percent, up from the current 8.97 percent.
    • It also includes a four-year increase in the corporate business tax, imposing a surcharge on all companies earning more than $1 million per year.

NJEA members have a lot to celebrate in this budget, and none of these victories would have been possible without their advocacy.

Please take a moment to thank Gov. Murphy, Sen. President Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Coughlin for their hard work on this budget.

Sample Text:

Dear Gov. Murphy, Sen. President Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin:

As an NJEA member, I would like to thank you for your hard work approving a state budget that supports public education.

From the largest increase in school funding in the state’s history to expanding access to preschool to making college more affordable, this budget shows that New Jersey values our excellent students and sees the importance of their education.

And as a school employee and taxpayer, I would like to thank you for the responsible decision to fund public employees’ pensions and health benefits while ensuring that the wealthiest pay their fair share.

Once again, thank you.
