1. All About Bargaining for ESP
This workshop will focus on important bargaining issues from an ESP perspective. Topics will include compensation, health benefits, and non-compensation issues.
2. Bargaining Strategies (Intermediate)
Successful bargaining is always the result of effective choices made at the bargaining table so every choice you make at the bargaining table matters. This workshop will focus on: crafting useful initial proposals, making tactical counter-proposals at the table, leveraging Board proposals for desired Association objectives, timing your withdrawal of proposals, working effectively with a mediator, etc.
3. Salary Guide (Intermediate)
The workshop is intended for participants who already have a basic understanding of guides. We will go into a further discussion of the importance of increment cost and career earnings as well as calculations and analysis of real guides.
4. Basic Salary Guide Construction
This workshop is intended for individuals with little or no experience developing salary and hourly guides. Basic salary guide terms and strategies will be reviewed for ESP and certificated members.
5. Introduction to Bargaining
This is an introduction to collective bargaining for new members and leaders.
6. Current Issues in Bargaining Health Benefits (Intermediate)
With ever-increasing cost pressures for medical and prescription plans and the upcoming expiration of P.L.2020, c44, health benefits negotiations have become increasingly complex. This session is designed for experienced negotiators who already have a general understanding of health benefits and will focus on strategies for protecting what members value in their health insurance plans.
7. From Impasse to Impassioned: A Guide for Local Action Teams
Are you concerned that you may encounter difficulty when trying to reach an agreement with the Board? Is your Association already in a bargaining crisis? If so, then this workshop is for you! Participants will learn how to develop a communication system, design and carry out structure tests, and move the general membership toward collective action and engagement.
8. Power and Participation in Bargaining NEW
Negotiations is the one thing local associations do that affects every member, which means it’s the perfect opportunity to build your union’s power! This workshop will show you how to engage members, develop and use your collective strength and secure a win at the bargaining table.
9. Privatization NEW
Winning the fight against Privatization requires many different strategies and techniques. In this session you will learn how to protect your members from being fired and demonstrate how being engaged and organized can stop outsourcing.
10. Is Your Contract Ready for Negotiations? NEW
This session will focus on analyzing members’ current contracts for basic contract principles. Emphasis will be made to develop clarity, consistency, and avoiding vague language in specific contract provisions. Special emphasis will be made to update contracts to current issues and trends. Members should bring a copy of their contract.
11. Bargaining for All: Crafting Equitable Contract Language for Fairness and Inclusion NEW
This workshop will prepare participants with strategies for inclusive bargaining – from prep work to the final agreement. Explore ways to critically assess contract language through a social justice lens by identifying language that promotes inequity, bias, or discrimination, and learn effective approaches to negotiate equitable language and salary benefits. In this session participants will also discuss methods for bargaining in today’s political climate and preparing for the challenges ahead.
