The NJREA will hold its spring luncheon on April 24, 2025. Throughout this popular member-exclusive event, retirees can learn more about what they can do to act on important issues, as well as how we can work together to continue to restore respect for public education and preserve the pensions and benefits public school employees have earned.

In mid-March, all NJREA members will receive ballots in the mail to elect candidates for the NJEA Delegate Assembly and delegates to NEA-R/NEA-RA conventions, all for two-year terms.

Many new retirees and their spouses/partners are not yet of Medicare age and on a non-Medicare health plan.

All Medicare retirees and spouses/partners must pay a monthly premium for Medicare B. Retirees with 25 years of service are reimbursed the standard Medicare B premium for themselves and their spouse/partner on their health plan in their pension checks.

NJEA has created the Hardship Relief Fund to help active, retired and student members through the temporary or permanent loss of their primary residence or the experience of food insecurity.

In September, the School Employees’ Health Benefits Commission (SEHBC) approved rates for the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program (SEHBP), from which many of our retired members received their benefits, for Plan Year 2025.
