The Littman Families Holocaust Resource Center at Rutgers University is hosting a free, three-session minicourse: Feb. 3, 10, and 24 from 4:30–7:30 p.m.
A free professional development minicourse, “Israel and the Holocaust,” will be held on three consecutive Mondays, Feb. 3, 10, and 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on the Rutgers University College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick.
The Feb. 10 session will be held virtually on Zoom. This course for educators will explore the uneasy relationship between two of the most significant events in modern Jewish history, the Holocaust and the creation of the State of Israel. It is presented under the auspices of the Herbert and Leonard Littman Families Holocaust Resource Center (HRC) and the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life at Rutgers University.
The minicourse will be taught by Avinoam Patt, the Maurice Greenberg Professor of Holocaust Studies and Inaugural Director of the Center for the Study of Antisemitism at New York University. His new book, Israel and the Holocaust (2024), is included with course registration. The pedagogical portion of the course will be led by Colleen Tambuscio.
This free minicourse is open to middle and high school educators, and it includes lecture, dinner, pedagogical discussion, and a copy of Professor Patt’s book. Nine hours of continuing education credits will be earned upon completion of the course. Applicants should have at least one year of teaching experience and at least one year of involvement with Holocaust/genocide education or currently be pursuing a master of education degree.
Advance registration is required by Jan. 29.
