Penny Burr and Jodi Hughes of Lacey Township Public Schools in Ocean County were awarded a $3,185 grant to create an inclusive sensory room, a safe and engaging space designed to support students’ sensory, emotional, and developmental needs. The sensory room will offer hands-on experiences that help students self-regulate, build skills, and connect with peers. Structured zones, clear guidelines, and intentional programming will allow typically developing students and students with multiple disabilities to interact meaningfully, fostering empathy, understanding, and collaboration. This space will give students the tools they need to feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.
