NJEA statement on State of the State address

NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson, released this statement following Gov. Phil Murphy’s 2022 State of the State address today:

“Gov. Murphy’s State of the State address showed why New Jersey was wise to reelect him. His track record of success for students and working families in New Jersey is impressive, and his plans to continue that progress should encourage anyone who cares about the future success of our schools and our state.

“By consistently increasing funding for public education, he’s opened new doors of opportunity for New Jersey’s students while making our state more affordable for property taxpayers. That wise investment will pay off for generations to come.

“His partnership with educators has already delivered huge positive benefits for students and families, with New Jersey’s public schools being ranked the best in the nation for the last three years. By listening to educators and investing in students, he’s shown the nation what is possible in our public schools when respect and commitment come together. Today, families and employers looking for a place to relocate know that if they come to the Garden State, great educational opportunities are guaranteed.

“We also thank Gov. Murphy for his steadfast commitment to the health and safety of students and staff. We share his eager anticipation for that day when ‘our children’s smiles can once again light up hallways and classrooms’ and we commend him for taking wise steps now to make that happen sooner than later.”
