Every member has their own reason to attend the NJEA Convention – and there are hundreds of reasons to attend! In addition to hundreds of workshops and a packed exhibit floor, here are 10 more reasons to help you make the most of the NJEA Convention. To get the details on the reasons here, download the NJEA Events app to your smartphone or visit njeaconvention.org.
The Convention is for everyone
Did you ever hear someone call the NJEA Convention the “teachers’ convention?” The truth is, the NJEA Convention is for everyone, in every district and every job category in the state. There are workshops and exhibits specifically designed for educational support professional (ESP) members, members who speak Spanish, retired members, aspiring educators, higher education members and so many more! With hundreds of workshops, booths, social events and organizations, there’s something for every NJEA member at the Convention!
Meet your new officer team
In September, NJEA’s new officer team was inducted. Meet NJEA President Steve Beatty, NJEA Vice President Petal Robertson and NJEA Secretary-Treasurer Tina Dare and get to know more about their vision for the future of NJEA.
Be inspired by Malala Yousafzai
NJEA is proud to welcome Malala Yousafzai, the co-founder of the Malala Fund; founder of Extracurricular; Nobel Laureate; best-selling author and producer to the NJEA Convention. Yousafzai will be the featured speaker on Thursday in Hall A at 9:45 a.m. Hear more about her life of activism, which began at age 11 when she anonymously blogged about life under the Taliban in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, particularly the ban on girls’ education. At age 15, she was shot in the head by the Taliban for speaking out. After months of surgery and rehabilitation in the United Kingdom, she founded the Malala Fund to continue her campaign to see all girls in school. A year later, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition for her work for education and equality.
Explore the world through others’ eyes at the film festival
Voices Unveiled is a thoughtfully curated film festival that seeks to amplify diverse experiences, inspire empathy, provoke insightful discussion and deepen collective understanding of our shared humanity. Visit Hall C between a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday to watch the eight films and participate in the reflection/journaling time.
Make the most of your NJEA Member Benefits and meet our partners
NJEA Member Benefits can help every member save money on the things they are already purchasing, from cars to couches, coffee to cruises. In addition, they have the tools, resources and connections to help you learn more about insurance, paying for college, investing for retirement and much more! Look for NJEA Member Benefits partners along Aisle 1900 on the Exhibit Hall floor and attend one of their many workshops.
Make time for health and wellness
Your well-being and self-care are priorities. Visit the expanded Health and Wellness areas at Convention to learn more about the MudGirls Studio Hands-On Experience, the Balanced Body Area and Serenity Station. Note: some activities require advanced registration, so make sure to register online before the Convention to take advantage of these opportunities.
You can bring your kids
While you attend workshops or other daytime Convention events, your children will have tons of fun and experience loads of learning from KiddieCorp – the childcare provider for Convention. The cost is $20 per child, per day.
You can leave your kids at home 🙂
Everything you’ve heard about Atlantic City in November is true: it’s a great escape from your regular life. With gorgeous ocean views, world-class dining and shopping, take some time after the Convention floor closes to taste AC and spend time with your friends and colleagues away from the school bell. Bonus: you can use your NJEA Member Benefits to secure deals and special events at some of the retail stores outside the Convention Center.
Network in your profession
Educators never get time to talk and share ideas with their colleagues across the state. Whether you teach music or math, drive a bus or prepare healthy meals, you will find other NJEA members who have something in common with you – or you can break out of your expertise and explore what educators in other areas are doing.
Get in touch with your creativity
The NJEA Convention is a place to learn more – about yourself, the profession and others. Explore the heart of creativity, connection and renewal as you travel through Resilience and Reflection Row, an immersive space o the exhibit floor. This unique area blends art, music, expression and healing, offering a reflective and connective pause in your Convention journey.
