NJEA and NEA endorse three more for re-election to Congress

On NJEA’s recommendation, the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education has endorsed three additional New Jersey incumbents for reelection to Congress this year: Frank Pallone (CD-6), Robert Menendez, Jr. (CD-8) and Donald Payne, Jr. (CD-10). Pallone has been a steadfast supporter of public education and for over 30 years in Congress. Menendez, Jr. received an “A” rating from NEA in the most recent session for his unwavering support on top-priority issues for educators and parents. Payne, Jr. is also an “A” rated Congressman who has shown particular leadership on issues of equity and justice that matter to educators in our very diverse state.

The full list of NJEA/NEA endorsed candidates is:

  • NJ-1: Rep. Donald Norcross
  • NJ-5: Rep. Josh Gottheimer
  • NJ-6: Rep. Frank Pallone
  • NJ-8: Rep. Robert Menendez, Jr.
  • NJ-9: Rep. Bill Pascrell
  • NJ-10: Rep. Donald Payne, Jr.
  • NJ-11: Rep. Mikie Sherrill
  • NJ-12: Rep. Bonnie Watson-Coleman

NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson have issued this statement:

“NJEA was proud to recommend these great advocates and allies for endorsement because they have proven they share our values and know how to get things done in Washington. During their time in Congress, they have been staunch supporters of children, educators and public schools. They have fought for families because they know that strong schools, strong communities and strong families work together to create successful students.

“Coming off a successful 2023 election in New Jersey, we are excited to build on that success at the national level. When we endorse candidates, they know our endorsement comes with a pledge to do the work to help them win. Our members are eager to organize, volunteer and vote so that these candidates and others who earn our endorsement will win next November.

“We know how much is at stake in the next election, and we are going to mobilize our members and our resources to ensure that public education remains a priority for our leaders and a pathway for every child, from every family to be able to achieve the American dream.”

Early endorsement is available to previously endorsed incumbents with exceptional records on issues of greatest importance to NJEA and NEA members. These endorsements were made by the National Education Association’s (NEA) Fund for Children and Public Education, which makes endorsements in federal elections.
