ESP Career Enhancement Strategies

In these challenging times, it is more important than ever for ESP to educate the public about the valuable work they do in New Jersey’s public schools, and communities. That’s why NJEA is providing the following resources to help ESP share their stories with the public. Most of these documents can be personalized to meet the needs and goals of your local association.

Remember to contact your UniServ representative or Bob Antonelli at NJEA Headquarters, 609-599-4561 ext. 2390 before embarking on a public campaign. They can support you and guide you through the process.

Understanding Privatization

Privatization (commonly known as outsourcing) is now considered the leading cause of ESP job loss. Privatization occurs when school districts do not understand the value of their ESP employees and hire outside companies to bring in cheap labor to perform the same services.
Many communities—and boards of education—are unfamiliar with the dangers of privatization and the unintended consequences of bringing strangers in to our schools. NJEA has created many tools to help members and local associations educate others and combat this growing trend.
